Founded by the de Groot brothers in 2013, Van Isle Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was forged with one goal in mind: to revolutionize the martial arts experience in Victoria B.C.
We started this journey with one foundational corner stone; our culture and atmosphere. At Van Isle, we understand that nothing hinders progression more than a controlling and closed minded culture. That’s why we encourage our members to engage with jiu jitsu on an intellectual level, and to question, to understand deeper, rather than taking what we teach as the infallible truth. This attitude, has helped create an open, honest, and helpful environment that welcomes challenge and failure as an opportunity to maximize growth. We consider our culture, our most valued asset.

We are extremely passionate and driven to share Jiu Jitsu with the people of Victoria. What makes us unique is our thirst for progression and the way that it manifests through our academy and through our programs.
Our quest is to offer world class instruction to beginners and advanced practitioners alike. We provide elite level strategies and training methodologies that are simply not available within the majority of jiu jitsu academies in this day and age.
Our instructors have gone out of their way to spend prolonged periods of time at some of the world’s very best jiu jitsu academies with the aim to build up a world class jiu jitsu syllabus. To further this goal, we continually seek out world caliber instructors to bring to Victoria to instruct our classes for several months each year. These instructors bring us hard to come by information to help us elevate our understanding of jiu jitsu. This is what we aim to bring the people of Victoria; elite, world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction.
